It was touch and go if the game would go ahead in very boggy conditions but it was decided that while both teams were there get the game played. The hard matches the day before saw Tadley down to a bare 16 with several cry offs but with an all 1st team back line Tadley started the game sharply and looked dangerous when they got the ball wide with Full Back Charlie Cox looking particularly sharp, his incisive run was well stopped by the full back but the ball was recycled and Jack Waterworth scored out wide, Dennison converted.
Broadmoor hit straight back from a lineout drive and a series of mauls and the conversion saw the game level 7-7. This was followed by an exchange of penalties as the teams couldn’t be separated.
The game was falling into a pattern Broadmoor controlled large chunks of possession and territory thanks to clever tactical kicking from the 10 and off loads to his willing forwards to keep up the pressure where as Tadley looked dangerous with ball in hand and it was from good handling that Captain Darren Staley who lead well again was on hand to finish of a great passage of play. This time Dennison couldn’t convert.
Broadmoor came straight back showing good back play of their own and forced their way over in the corner to level the scores.
On the Stroke of half time Dennison kicked another penalty to give Tadley a slender 18-15 lead.
Broadmoor kicked a penalty to level it soon after the break and it looked like the excitement of the 1st half would continue but the game turned into a forward slog in the mud as it became impossible to tell who was on which side at times as both teams wore similar colours, mud!! The home side dominated possession and territory thanks to their well organised and simple game plan and Tadley struggled to clear their lines but the team especially the forwards defended brilliantly to keep the home side at bay. The scrum was solid and tackling excellent, replacement Conor Dyment in his first representative game got through lots of tackles to impress.
On a break out attack which took Tadley from one 22 to the other, Tadley were penalised for holding on and Player/coach Mark Vatcher was rather surprisingly sin binned but it was evened up shortly after and for a while Tadley had the extra man but they couldn’t take advantage.
As the game ticked on and it looked like extra time was on the cards Tadley understandably tired under the continuous defensive duty and from a 5m lineout Broadmoor in the last minute forced their way over. |
